About Animakun
- 20+ years of animation practice
- International screenings across Europe, Asia and North America
- Workshops in Japan and the Netherlands
Animakun was founded by a Japanese animator and visual artist, Junko Hana Higashi.
Junko Hana Higashi graduated from the Department of Film at Osaka College of Art in 2000.
She began creating animation during her studies and has continued her practice for over two decades.
Her animated works have been screened in Japan and internationally. Alongside her artistic production, she has been involved in film and animation screening initiatives, contributing to programme planning and event coordination.
With a background in animation, graphic design, and visual production, she has developed a multidisciplinary practice that bridges narrative, movement, and visual experimentation. After relocating to the Netherlands in 2015, she expanded her practice to include painting, further exploring texture, rhythm, and hand-crafted imagery across different media.
